What is OICG?

The Office of Complementary Medicine - Industry Consultation Group (OICG) is a pre-consultative discussion forum focussed on the regulation and technical aspects of the complementary medicine industry. Its role is to consider technical and regulatory matters, to address emerging issues, and to assist in the preparation of consultation documents prior to their release for wider discussion. OICG is chaired by the Office of Complementary Medicine (OCM).

The Group is made up of representatives of the OCM and industry. The industry experts are nominated by either the Australian Self-Medication Industry (ASMI) or the Complementary Healthcare Council (CHC), and are supported by their respective Secretariat staff. Members are nominated by their industry association based on their expertise, skill and experience in the arena of complementary medicine and the regulatory environment.

Meetings are usually held 5 times per year. They are conducted in a collegial manner under strict confidentiality, to encourage full and frank discussion and representatives are expected to put aside their own company perspectives for the good of the industry as a whole. Information considered by OICG may be disseminated more broadly to industry upon approval by the Group.
